Retractable Skylight # 3 |

|
Martell’s, a famous New Jersey shoreline restaurant,
banquet facility and outdoor tiki bar resort has
been a part of the Roll-A-Cover family for over 4
years. Their establishments have enjoyed the
tremendous benefits of our retractable sunroom
products and also our retractable skylight roof
systems as a marketing venue for their summer time
clientele. Their two locations are renown for their
ocean view comfort, and both being tremendous boater
hot spots, the space that Martell’s offers is second
to none.
There hasn’t been a project that we have custom
designed for the owners and staff at Martell’s that
hasn’t been applauded for its design and innovative
rolling concept. But, on the other side of the coin,
our Roll-A-Cover staff has also enjoyed the people
that are apart of Martell’s and the excitement that
they bring to our projects offerings. We often look
to our finest clients as the ones that hold our
future in their hands and Martell’s establishments
are one of those chosen entities.
The first project that we designed for them was at
their Martell’s Waters Edge location which has
proved to be tremendous added benefit to their
outdoor seating areas. They would of lost a
considerable amount of clients during those windy
and or rainy days but with our Roll-A-Cover products
protecting those spaces they could maintain a
strong flow of guests that will enjoy their beach
side times whether the sun is out of a storm purges
over the beach front.
The project that is within these photos is the
Martell’s Boardwalk location. This is one of two new
retractable skylights that were custom designed and
built to roll between several Tiki bars as a
protective covering during those inclement days.

We
plan to load our vehicles for the 4 hour road trip
to Martell’s. The added care packing the unit
insures a non-damaged product as it is being shipped
and installed miles away from our plant. Being
telescopic in nature, we are often able to sit
multiple sections on our rigs. This gives us ease
during the craning and transporting of our units.
|
|
As the loading process comes to a close, planning
for the 4 hour road trip with a secure rig becomes
the primary concern.
|
 |
 |
Arriving at Martell’s Boardwalk location, Dennis
Marten’s, the VP of Roll-A-Cover who participates
frequently in the delivery and install process,
assists the crane operator during the unloading
process.
|
|
As a team from Martell’s construction crew assists
the crane in transporting the first roof section
through the streets, this was the start to a fun
packed day. The weight of this section is around 500
lbs so a tow motor on this project became a
pleasure.
|
 |
 |
Now that the section is closer to its resting site,
the access to the boardwalk has forced the
construction crew to man handle the roof section
vertical so that it can safely pass through a narrow
walkway.
|
|
Bringing the forklift to the installation location
was a blessing to everyone. Safety is always first
at a Roll-A-Cover site. Protecting the boardwalk
from the wheels of the forklift was a safe and
responsible task that everyone took part in. |
 |
 |
Preparing one of the sections for its lift took time
with the rigging process but once everything went
into place the ease of installing these
pre-assembled panels became second nature to
everyone. |
|
Hoisting the section 14’ into the air and placing
them on one of the Roll-A-Cover’s skylight track
system was easier than expected for the installation
crew. Roll-A-Cover was there as support, but the
experience at the first Martell’s project a few
years back was all that this crew needed. They were
pro’s already and the process was a simple
enclosure, where as this 800 square foot skylight
could be installed and secured in just one day. |
 |
 |
A team member on each side of the tiki bar roofs,
guiding the forklift with the first section, the
retractable skylight project starts to take shape. |
|
Installing the second section becomes second nature
to the operator and installs team. The sections are
lifted over the other section and placed into its
permanent location on the tracking system.
|
 |
 |
Installing the custom pre-built gable end was as
easy as the bays were. This section was shipped down
as one and re-screwed into place. This short wall
will help protect the interior deck area during high
winds and rain.
|
|
Three sections are stacked on top of each other and
ready to roll closed or open. There is a tight seal
between each one which gives the system a tremendous
amount of stability
|
 |
 |
Inclusive with Phil and Dennis from Roll-A-Cover,
the staff from Martell’s is standing tall because of
the Roll-A-Cover retractable skylight that was
installed and working as planned. This team is now
waiting for skylight 32, which is expected to arrive
in a few days. Then they could complete this
extensive remodeling project and prepare for another
tremendous summer season. |
